Two 20-minute halves in a 50-minute schedule, with a 2-minute warm-up and a 2-minute half-time on the match clock. The clock stops for all whistles in the last 2 minutes of the second half.
In semi, preliminary and grand finals the clock stops on all time-outs, time-outs are allowed at any legal time (FIBA), and the clock stops for whistles in the last 3 minutes of the second half (grand finals also the last minute of the first half). Drawn finals go to 3-minute extra periods with 1 time-out each. The app's timer currently models home-and-away games only.
Three-point field goals count in all age groups. The inner three-point line is used for Under 14 and younger where available; the outer line for Under 15 and older.
The app warns at four personal fouls and treats five as fouled out (standard FIBA practice). The referees and the official scoresheet decide.

Defence
No zone defence U8–U14
EDJBA has a No Zone policy for Under 14 and younger. Any defence inside the three-point line that doesn't use normal man-to-man principles counts as a zone. Zone presses and traps are allowed if they fall back to man-to-man inside the three-point line. A team can forfeit for a second determined zone (by-law 14d).
Applies in all games except grading games and finals, in all age groups, whenever a team leads by 20 or more. The leading team must retreat behind the three-point line on defence whenever the opposition gains possession. Coaches cannot opt out. EDJBA strongly advises man-to-man (not zone) inside the line.
A team that doesn't have four players (eligible or ineligible) within ten minutes of the scheduled start gives a walkover, and the opponent is awarded 20–0. A team with fewer than four eligible players may use an ineligible player to make four; that game is a forfeit but avoids the walkover (by-law 14a). The app lets you start with four.
After grading rounds: 3 for a win or bye, 2 for a draw (1 each for a double forfeit), 1 for a loss, 1 for the forfeiting team, 3 for the team receiving a forfeit, 0 for giving a walkover, 3 for receiving one. Late-entry teams get 1 point per round missed.
From Round 5 a team may use fill-ins up to a maximum of eight players listed; more than eight listed makes the game a forfeit. A fill-in must be from the same gender competition, and their first name, last name and date of birth must be on the game sheet before the second half starts. Section and age limits apply (see the by-law table). The app cannot check PlayHQ registrations.
Sections use letters: A, B, C, D, E and so on (by-law 3a). Grades are groups within a section, for example BA, BB, B1 or B2 (3b). Divisions can split a grade by playing time or locality, for example C3A or C3E (3c–d). Copy your actual PlayHQ name rather than guessing.
Summer: U8, U10, U12, U14, U16, U18, U21, by age on 30 June of the season-start year. Winter: U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, U19, U21, by age on 31 December before the season. Confirm eligibility with your club.
General coaching guidance, not an EDJBA by-law quoted here: plan rotations so every player gets meaningful minutes, especially in younger groups.

Officials
Child safety: WWCC and e-scoring
Coaches, assistant coaches, team managers and anyone over 18 helping at training or on game day need a valid Working with Children Check (or a Basketball Victoria-approved exemption), must be registered in the e-scoring system with their team, and must meet Basketball Victoria screening. Coaches under 18 and self-coached teams need a qualifying responsible adult courtside.
Remove any player with a suspected concussion and don't let them return that day. Follow Basketball Victoria's guidelines and medical advice; this app doesn't assess injuries.
